I need not mention Jasokie’s achievements in other areas as enough has been said. While I served as Director of Education, with late Jasokie as the Minister in-charge, I have a number of good memories that I thought I should mention here.
He was non-assuming in his action towards the officers of the department and during my tours with him in troubled torn areas, where vehicles could not ply, he as a sport loving person would agree to go with me by foot even into the most interior places.
I will mention only this very pleasant episode here, which was the tour around Mokokchung area.
We started very early in the morning after breakfast, first touching Silonijan, Chungtia, Changki, Longchem and lastly Japukong.
We decided not to halt the night at Longchem Government High School, because his stay for the night would mean a lot of trouble and would create inconveniences for the people, so he informed the public “I have come personally and saw your problems but excuse me, I will go without staying for the night”.
We reached Dimapur at about 11:00 pm.
