The District Administration and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Zunheboto, on November 3 launched the local Sümi language translation of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) maternity benefit scheme and the Child Marriage Free India campaign at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Zunheboto.
Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Dharam Raj, IAS, along with DHEW staff, officially launched the translated informational materials aimed at making government schemes and awareness messages more accessible to people at the grassroots level.
The initiative seeks to eliminate language barriers by translating PMMVY information and Child Marriage Free India materials into the Sümi language, ensuring that information on financial assistance, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and maternal healthcare reaches eligible beneficiaries across blocks and villages in the district. Alongside the launch, the DC initiated a 100-day campaign under the national Child Marriage Free India initiative, also known as Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat. The campaign is being undertaken ahead of the International Day for the Elimination of Child Marriage on November 27.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC underscored the need to protect children's rights, end early child marriages and encourage girls' education as essential components of holistic societal development. He called upon community elders, church leaders and youth organisations to play an active and vigilant role in eliminating social evils and ensuring a safe and empowering future for young girls.
As part of the initiative, the District Administration and DHEW, Zunheboto, also dispatched a pledge in the Sümi language, along with information on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, to villages and town areas to promote wider awareness and understanding of the issue.
