ANGCTA seeks justice for teachers

• Submits charter of demands
• Writes to NPSC

Kohima, March 20 (MExN): The All Nagaland Government College Teachers’ Association (ANGCTA) on Saturday served a charter of demands to the State Higher and Technical Education Minister “for prompt action within a stipulated time.”

In its representation, the Association stated that it had served several representations for justice and delivery of quality education in higher education.

In spite of the representations and subsequent reminder, the authority has failed to pay any heed to our grievance for years together, it stated.

In this regard, the ANGCTA sought ‘fairness and justice’ through a three-point charter of demands on March 20.

The Association stated that the teachers have been deprived of ‘timely placement’ for years and highlighted that, as per University Grant Commission (UGC) rules, teachers’ placement is ‘time bound’ like other service cadre.

It demanded that placement of teachers, which is long overdue, should be a reality and no more delayed.

It also demanded for the government constituted committee draft to be approved immediately and implemented effectively.

ANGCTA stated that it stands for direct recruitment of teachers through NPSC. However, with the time lapses in requisition and conduct of examinations and flaws in recruitment policy and regularization of some members, ANGCTA demanded that the Government should take a stand on the issue and work on a mechanism to solve this long standing problem once and for all.

The Association reiterated its stand that contractual appointment should be avoided and that all appointment should be via proper recruitment process.

While presenting its charter of demands, the Association sought prompt action from the authority concerned, failing which, it cautioned that it would have “no other option but to resort to democratic means of agitation.”

‘Put recruitment of Assistant Professors on hold’
Meanwhile, the ANGCTA also wrote to the Secretary of the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) requesting the Commission to put a hold on the recruitment of Assistant Professors under Higher Education, posts of which were advertised under the Common Educational Services Examination on November 13, 2019 and via an addendum/corrigendum on January 21, 2021.

The Association stated in its letter that the review Committee constituted by the Government to look into the discrepancies in the present Nagaland Higher Education Service Rule 2015, Nagaland has submitted its report.

Therefore, with the approval of the Nagaland Higher Education Service Rule pending, ANGCTA requested the NPSC to put the recruitment of Assistant Professors under Higher Education on hold.

“This representation does in no way disturb the other recruitment of posts which can be proceeded as scheduled by NPSC other than the ‘Assistant Professors post’,” it added.
