DIMAPUR, JUNE 11 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed redevelopment works at Jalpaiguri Road railway station in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), while modernization works at four other stations in the district are progressing, a press release informed.
According to the release from NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, five stations in Jalpaiguri district—Jalpaiguri, New Jalpaiguri, Dhupguri, New Mal Junction and Jalpaiguri Road—have been identified under the scheme aimed at transforming railway stations into modern, passenger-friendly transport hubs.
The release stated that redevelopment works at Jalpaiguri Road station have been completed recently. The station has been upgraded with a redesigned circulating area featuring dedicated traffic lanes, structured parking facilities and pedestrian pathways to improve passenger movement.
Other facilities added under the redevelopment include a new entrance porch, upgraded station façade, modern booking counters, modular toilets, a refreshment room-cum-cafeteria, waiting hall with baby care room, improved platform surfaces, landscaped green zones and high-mast illumination systems.
The station has also been equipped with Divyangjan-friendly facilities, dedicated parking areas, improved signage and upgraded passenger information systems, including modern display boards and public announcement facilities.
Meanwhile, modernization works at Jalpaiguri, New Jalpaiguri, Dhupguri and New Mal Junction stations are progressing rapidly, the release stated.
NFR informed that redevelopment works at Jalpaiguri and Dhupguri stations are expected to be completed by December 2026, while works at New Jalpaiguri and New Mal Junction stations are likely to be completed in early 2027.
