The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), has expressed strong disapproval of what it called the "outrageous demands and provocations" of the Kuki-Chin-Mizo community.
ANSAM, in a statement today, criticized the August 31 rally organized by the Kuki-Chin-Mizo community across the Naga homeland, saying it posed significant political threats to the already volatile situation in Manipur.
The student body condemned the Kuki-Chin-Mizo's claims, accusing them of spreading "blatant lies" and distorting historical facts. "The Nagas are perturbed by the circulation of fabricated information and distorted historical accounts, which amount to an insult to the Naga people and history," the statement read. ANSAM also accused the Kuki-Chin-Mizo community of manipulating historical narratives to support their territorial claims.
ANSAM highlighted the "provocative" behavior of Kuki-Chin-Mizo protesters during the August 31 rally, particularly in the Tumnaopokpi area, where Naga leaders had issued a "gentle caution" to avoid confrontation between the two communities. It also questioned the inclusion of Naga tribes in the rally's flyers, calling it an attempt to falsely represent "geography and demography" for the Kuki-Chin-Mizo's demands.
Warning of potential conflict, ANSAM cautioned that continued provocations and false territorial claims could lead to chaos and enmity between the communities. The group urged the Kuki-Chin-Mizo community to respect Naga traditional land ownership and refrain from "acts of blasphemy."
The Naga student body also called on the Government of India to address the ongoing crisis in Manipur with sincerity and historical accuracy, warning against any bifurcation of Naga ancestral lands. It concluded by stating that any action adversely affecting the Nagas would provoke further violence and conflict between communities.
