Dimapur, August 7 (MExN): The All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA), Dimapur Unit, has urged the Nagaland government and Transport Department to expedite implementation of the Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) system for commercial passenger vehicles in the State.
In a press release issued by ANTA Dimapur Unit president Ghunato Chophy and general secretary Vinito Assumi, the association said the continued delay in implementing the system was causing hardship to commercial vehicle owners.
The association said the VLTD system is mandated for commercial passenger vehicles as part of measures to strengthen passenger safety and accountability in public transport. However, its non-implementation in Nagaland has left many vehicle owners unable to complete registration formalities and obtain documents required to legally operate their vehicles.
According to ANTA, hundreds of vehicle owners have already purchased new commercial vehicles, with some having made the investment nearly seven months ago. "Many are still awaiting registration solely because the VLTD system has not been implemented in the State," it said.
The prolonged delay, it added, has resulted in financial losses and loss of income for families dependent on commercial vehicles for their livelihood.
ANTA also raised concerns over insurance claims and statutory compliance, saying the absence of an operational VLTD system could create difficulties in insurance-related processes and expose vehicle owners to legal and financial risks.
The association said implementation of the system would not only benefit commercial vehicle operators but also serve the wider public interest by improving passenger safety, vehicle monitoring, emergency response and accountability in public transport.
ANTA Dimapur Unit urged the government to "urgently implement the VLTD system across the State," establish sufficient authorised installation facilities and facilitate completion of pending vehicle registrations and other statutory formalities.
The association said it remained willing to cooperate with the government in ensuring the implementation of the system and expressed hope that the "long-pending issue" would be resolved without further delay.
