Ao Lanur Telongjem urges government to establish fire station in Mangkolemba

MOKOKCHUNG, DECEMBER 13 (MExN): The Ao Lanur Telongjem (ALT) has called on the State Government to urgently establish a fire station in the Mangkolemba Sub-division, highlighting the recent devastating fire that exposed a critical gap in emergency services in the area.

The ALT expressed its deep sympathy for the victims of the fire that broke out on December 8, destroying five private residences, two shops, and adjacent godowns in Mangkolemba. The organization criticized the government's long-standing neglect of the sub-division, which lacks even basic public utilities such as a fire station.

“Mangkolemba is one of the oldest and most important sub-divisions in Mokokchung district, and serves as the headquarters for three ranges. The recent fire incident could have been mitigated if there had been a fire brigade in place. This devastating event underscores the urgent need for the establishment of a fire station in the sub-division,” press release received from the ALT stated on Friday.

The ALT pointed out on the heightened risk of future fire incidents with the onset of the dry season, noting the potential for both material destruction and loss of life if such a tragedy were to occur again. It is imperative for Mangkolemba Sub-division to have a fire-brigade apart from other amenities and ALT hopes and expects the Government to positively respond to our genuine demand and initiate the works on priority basis, it therefore stated.

In addition to their call for a fire station, the ALT also appealed to the relevant authorities to provide compensation to the victims of the fire to help alleviate their losses and suffering.
