Dimapur, July 10 (MExN): Breaking its silence over the upheavals in the border areas of the district and the subsequent economic blockade imposed by the AASU and the APJYCP, the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), today said that the AKM is making necessary arrangements with the district mechanism and other NGOs to face the onslaught of the blockade and warned that the AASU and APJYCP will be held responsible for any untoward incidents arising thereof.
The President of the AKM, Aodangnok, in a press release, said that this is not the first time that an economic blockade has been imposed by Assam based organisations to harass the Nagas.
Aodangnok said that such impositions of economic blockade has been unproductive and had backfired on many occasions in the past. The AKM President said that even this time, the Nagas are prepared for such eventualities if need be and added that the AKM has made necessary arrangements with the district mechanism and other NGOs and would to resort to such means.
“The AKM warns the AASU and APJYCP will be held responsible for any untoward incidents arising thereof,” said Aodangnok. The AKM also observed that the decision to impose the economic blockade has been taken without proper investigation and that it doubts the sanity of the AASU and APJYCP for resorting to economic blockade to solve the present crisis.
In this connection, the AKM President said that the major crisis and unnecessary tension among the settlers of both the sides of the border has been cause by some unidentified miscreants.
‘ENSF monitoring situation’
The Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation (ENSF) has also expressed its grave concern over the tension in the Nagaland-Assam border and said that the Federation is closely monitoring the situation.
A press communiqué issued by the General Secretary, Methna Konyak, while saying that Economic blockade is particularly affecting the Mon and Longleng districts, said that said that peaceful negotiation and not the hash imposition of economic blockade can be the best means to solve every problem.
Nonetheless, it appealed to the AASU and AJYCP to call off the economic blockade to create a congenial atmosphere for dialogue.
The ENSF also appealed to the state governments of Nagaland and Assam to bring permanent solution to the border issue. It continued that the infiltration in the border areas had to be seriously checked as it had caused the recent incident near Anaki C village.
