Dimapur, December 8 (MExN): The apex Ao women organization— Watsü Mungdang has written a letter to various government agencies such as SCERT, Nagaland University (NU) and Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) for the inclusion of components on gender issues in the curriculum. The letter written by the Watsü Mungdang President and General Secretary was addressed to the Director SCERT, Vice Chancellor NU and Chairman of NBSE.

The letter written by the Watsü Mungdang President and General Secretary was addressed to the Director SCERT, Vice Chancellor NU and Chairman of NBSE.
The letter mentioned about the need to bring about more “mechanisms to sensitize our people on various aspects of gender issues so as to bring about a more equitable society”.
This was one of the discussions held during its 18th General Conference, informed the letter. And in pursuance of this objective it was resolved to request the concerned educational authorities to introduce components on Gender Issues (Social Stratification) in the curriculum in all levels of Elementary, High School, Higher Secondary and Under Graduate levels.
“The aim of this move is to introduce the young minds to the ways in which the position of men and women are identified and conceptualized in the society and impacts the ways of customs and practices pertaining to socialization of boy and girls in the society”, the letter stated. This would create an “Understanding of Gender Relationship, Status and Role in the Society”. The letter went on to state that this “awareness and sensitization about Gender Equality will help to develop a Gender Friendly attitude in life and be sensitive about the various Gender Related Issues confronting the modern society”.
“Thus, keeping in mind the crucial necessity of such a process of attitude and psychological formation, we would earnestly press upon your kind authority to take up the issue urgently to make this incorporation in the curriculum at the earliest as we are all aware that the educational institutions are the most effective means of Socialization”. The letter looked forward to the cooperation and positive action from the concerned authorities.
