Prospective beekeepers from Mopungchuket and Yimchalu villages under Mokokchung district were imparted basic training on apiculture by the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM). The training session was held at Yimchalu council hall with NBHM Team Member Chubanungla as the chief resource person and noted apiarist T Chuba Longkumer as the expert trainer.
The training held on February 23 was conducted as part of the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) cluster farming model project being implemented at Yimchalu village and adjoining Molungkong area of Mopungchuket village. Apart from imparting basic training, NBHM also distributed beekeeping boxes, veil caps and swarm bags. The trainees were also provided with financial assistance to build two beekeeping sheds in each village.
It may be mentioned that the RKVY cluster farming model project at Yimchalu village and adjoining Molungkong area of Mopungchuket village is a 2-year project being implemented from the current year with the department of agriculture as the nodal department. A host of agri and allied departments like horticulture, veterinary and animal husbandry, fisheries, land resources, soil and water conservation, NBHM and others are involved in implementing the project.
