Appeal to fight against trafficking

WOKHA, July 30 (MExN): Wokha district observed World Day Against Trafficking In Person on July 30 at DBHSS Youth Centre organized by District Administration in collaboration with Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) and Sakhi-One Stop Centre. The programme was held under the theme ‘You Can Free Me.’

 


Theme speaker, Adv. Shanchobeni P Lotha, Project Assistant, WDLSA while addressing the gathering said the root causes of trafficking is poverty, lack of employment opportunities, low socio-economic status, lack of education and awareness and appealed to all to put thoughtful efforts to address the issue and fight against trafficking. She emphasized on the intervention of central and state government initiatives like protection homes for girls which provide, custodial care, education, vocational training and rehabilitation.

 


Women Welfare Officer, MSK, Dr. Wonchano E Enny enlightening the participants about the activities of Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) said MSK is a new scheme introduced to give support service and empower rural women through skill development, digital, health and nutrition.

 


Adv. Nancy said Sakhi-One stop centre emphasizes on providing integrated support and assistance under one roof to women affected by violence in private and public spaces within the family, community and at work place, or women facing physical, sexual, emotional and economic abuse irrespective of age, caste, educational status and religion. She further added that the centre also provides counseling and legal assistance to fight against any form of violence against women.

 


The programme was chaired by EAC (P) Molosangla Ozkum while vote of thanks was delivered by EAC (P) Yentinoungbou.
