
Mon, December 29 (MExN): The Court of Inquiry constituted by the Indian Army visited the firing incident site at Oting village of Mon district in Nagaland on Wednesday.
The inquiry team, headed by a senior rank officer, a Major General, inspected the site to understand the circumstances in which the incident could have happened, according to an official statement from the PRO (Def) Kohima.
The team is said to have taken along the witnesses for better understanding of the situation and how events would have unfolded. The team was also present at Tizit Police Station, Mon District between 1: 30 pm to 3:00 pm on Wednesday to meet the cross section of the society including civilians, police personnel and doctors who treated the injured “for obtaining valuable information pertaining to the incident,” as per the statement.
This was corroborated by police sources who told The Morung Express that the CoI team had interviewed two police personnel, two medical doctors and two citizens of Oting village, before leaving for Assam.
The PTI News Agency also reported that representatives of the Mon district's civil and police administration accompanied the team. “At least three security forces personnel involved in the December 4 firing incidents were also present at the spot,” it added.
Earlier, the Army had, on two occasions, issued public notices requesting “any person having information to directly share it, either by being present before the Inquiry Team at Tizit Police Station… or any input, photo or video related to the incident be shared with them via Phone, SMS or WhatsApp Messenger at +916033924571.”
The information may also be shared in person to the Inquiry team at Dinjan Military Station in Assam, the statement read.
As per Indian Army, the Court of Inquiry is progressing expeditiously and all efforts are being made to conclude it at the earliest, it added.
