Around 75 nurseries in NE accredited by CIH Nagaland

Conducts awareness prog on nursery accreditation

Medziphema, August 15 (MExN): The Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, Nagaland has accredited around 75 nurseries in North-East Region so far.

Additional Commissioner Horticulture, Government of India (GoI) and Director i/c CIH, Dr Naveen Kumar Patle provided the information while addressing an online awareness programme organised by CIH on “Nursery Accreditation of Horticultural Crops in Northeast Region” on August 13.

Given a background to the event, he also highlighted on importance and scopes of nursery accreditation of horticultural crops.
Meanwhile, Horticulture Commissioner, GoI Dr Prabhat Kumar highlighted the importance of quality planting materials as well as shared on standards, quality, sustainability of planting materials and customer satisfaction.

The continuous improvement is required for production of quality planting materials, he noted. 

As per a CIH release, the online event featured in-depth presentations and discussions on key topics by invited resource persons and experts in the related field.

Dr, BNS Murthy, Chairman, Nursery Accreditation Committee guided the attendees on the certification process, including tips on documentation, inspections, and ensuring compliance with the standards.

Steps for establishment of horticultural nursery and management of nursery plants were discussed by Dr GKarunakaran, Principal Scientist, ICAR-IIHR.

Among others, the session focused on standards and criteria necessary for raising quality planting material as well as ensuring environmental sustainability, maintaining plant health, and achieving operational excellence.

It also highlighted the numerous advantages of certification, such as enhanced marketability, increased customer trust, and compliance with industry regulations. 

Around100 participants, including nursery owners, horticulture officers and field functionaries from all the North-East states, attended the programme, the release added.
