Dimapur, January 29 (MExN): A 2-day training on mental health, mental illness, intellectual disability and epilepsy was held for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) under Chümoukedima Block.
The training was organised in two batches for 26 ASHAs by the Community Mental Health Programme (CMHP) under Prodigals’ Home at the latter’s project office at Chümoukedima on January 28 and 29.
Resource persons K Sani, CMHP Field coordinator and Sukum Aier, Assistant Field coordinator covered topics on the concept of mental health as per World Health Organization, different forms and symptoms of severe and common mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias, etc, convulsive epilepsy and intellectual disability.
The main objective of the training was to accustom the ASHAs with the cited illnesses/disorders so that they can easily identify persons with such illnesses/disorders and refer for early treatment and intervention.
The CMHP is a project working with persons with different kinds of mental illnesses; severe and common, persons with intellectual disability and persons with epilepsy by providing services such as diagnosis, medication, psycho education and follow ups through structured home visits besides other activities such as training for stakeholders, awareness programs, IEC development, etc.
It informed that there is a Consultant Psychiatrist from Guwahati and Clinical Psychologist from CIHSR Dimapur working with the Project Team.
The CMHP funded by Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives, Bangalore and technically supported by Ashadeep, Guwahati, is currently intervening in all the villages/wards under Chümoukedima Block.
