Assam Rifles conduct civic activities

Dimapur, January 3 (MExN): Battalions of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N) conducted a number of civic activities across the state over the week.

According to updates from HQ IGAR (N), Shamatore Battalion of Assam Rifles conducted a picnic as well as medical camp for Adora Children's Home at Noklak on January 1. 24 children along with the caretakers joined in the picnic.

The Kiphire Battalion of Assam Rifles meanwhile established a multi skill set development center at Pungro on December 31. 

The project included renovation of the building provided by Pungro Area College Students Union (PACSU) and provision of stores and equipment to augment the three essential skill sets of Information Technology and Computers, Organic farming and Piggery amongst the locals.

According to the updates, the facility was inaugurated by Yansomong, 2nd Head Goan Burah in the presence of the Assam Rifles personnel, GB and council members of Pungro town and PACSU under the overall coordination of the Yimchungru Tribal Council. 

The villagers and council members expressed their gratitude to the Assam Rifles for their initiative of promoting empowerment and self reliant growth of the locals in the remote border region, the updates stated.

The Mokokchung Battalion meanwhile inaugurated new toilet blocks at Jordan School, Bura Namsang under Longleng district on December 31.

The AR constructed new toilet blocks for boys and girls at the school as a gesture of goodwill to fullfil the basic requirement of having toilet blocks in the school for the students in the village located in remote areas. The same was appreciated by the locals who expressed their gratitude to the Battalion for the gesture, the updates stated.

The Mokokchung Battalion also organised a two week Bamboo Craft workshop for the physically disabled from December 21 to 29 at Mokokchung.

According to the updates, the two week workshop was organised with a vision of equipping the physically disabled with additional skills to explore alternative sources of livelihood. The workshop enabled these individuals in developing skills to create valuable products from bamboo which is easily available in the region, to use them both for commercial and domestic purposes, it added.
