Assam Rifles conduct civic activities across Nagaland

Dimapur, April 9 (MExN): Various battalions of the Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N) organized civic activities in different districts of Nagaland, PRO, HQ IGAR (N) informed on Friday.

Kiphire: The Kiphire Battalion conducted an awareness drive at Thongsonyu village, Kiphire on April 7 with 15 key tribe/village council members of Thongsonyu village in attendance. The lecture-cum-discussion focused on projecting the various provisions of the ‘Free Move Regime’ along the IMB. The Kiphire Battalion also organized a free veterinary and medical check-up camp at Seyochung Town, Kiphire on April 8 as part of Op Sadhbhavna Project 2021 in conjunction with Mobile Field Veterinary hospital, Rangapahar.

The camp was attended by villagers from Seyochung Town and the surrounding villages. Medicines for a total of 1,419 poultry and 1,069 domestic animals were distributed. 25 dogs and 10 poultry were treated for major diseases. In addition, regular medical check-up and medicines were given 38 villagers.

The free veterinary and medical checkup camp was also conducted at Pungro Town on April 9 as part of Op Sadhbhavna Project in conjunction with Mobile Field Veterinary hospital, Rangapahar and Veterinary Doctor and medical staff from Pungro PHC. The camp was attended by villagers from the border town of Pungro and the surrounding villages under Kiphire district. Medicines for 1073 poultry and 252 domestic animals were distributed. 15 dogs and 190 poultry were treated for diseases. In addition, regular medical checkup and medicines were given to 37 villagers.

Wokha: Chieswema Battalion in a joint effort with Indian Army provided dozer and excavator assistance for ground leveling at Queens Mary College and St Peters School at Longsa, Wokha district on April 8.

The ground at St Peters School and the newly built Queens Mary College was lying unused and posing an inconvenience for the students. At the request of most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, two excavators and one dozer were provided by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles over the past two months. The heavy earth equipment has been continuously working in order to level the ground and provide a road cutting and alignment to both the institutions.

Phek: The Phek Battalion conducted a medical camp at DC Ground, Phek district on April 7 to give medical consultation and aid to all central and State scheme pensioners including veterans from the district. A specially constituted team under Unit Medical Officer assisted by district medical authorities provided free medical assistance to 293 individuals. Free medicines were also distributed after consultation. Apart from medical assistance, basic knowledge on epidemic diseases and precautions were also imparted.

Peren: Jalukie Battalion assisted Senior Citizen Home with solar lanterns and Child Care Orphanage with health awareness drive at Ngwalwa, Peren district on April 8. The campaign focused on raising awareness on COVID-19 situation among the elderly and the children of the orphanage.

The Jalukie Battalion also provided emergency medical assistance at Tening Town, on April 8 to a 2-year old girl who suffered severe burn injuries. It also conducted a medical camp at New Poilwa on April 8. A total of 186 villagers, including 38 children benefitted from the camp.

Dimapur: Dimapur Battalion carried out refurbishment and revamping of Anganwadi Centre at Doyapur Village in Dimapur district. The centre was renovated under Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme Project and was handed over to the village authorities on April 8.

Mon: Various sports items were distributed to Aboi Student Union, Aboi town, Mon district by the Mokokchung Battalion on April 9 as part of Assam Rifles Civic Action Project to encourage the young sports enthusiasts and provide them an opportunity to hone their sporting skills.
