Kohima, June 14 (MExN): The Interim Nagaland Indian Medical Council (Interim NIMC) has directed all practitioners of the Indian System of Medicine (ISM) in Nagaland to mandatorily register with the council in compliance with the directives of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), Board of Ethics and Registration, New Delhi.
According to a notification issued by the Interim NIMC, all practitioners holding degrees such as BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BSRMS and currently practising in Nagaland must obtain registration with the Interim NIMC, including those already registered with medical councils or boards of other states.
The registration process will remain open from June 15 to December 15, 2026. The council stated that practitioners who fail to comply within the stipulated period will be deemed to be practising in violation of the provisions of the NCISM Act, relevant regulations and other statutory provisions, making them liable for legal, disciplinary and penal action as permissible under law.
The notification further stated that ISM practitioners from outside Nagaland visiting the state for clinical practice, consultations, continuing medical education (CME) programmes, workshops, medical camps, academic activities, hospital attachments or any other professional engagement must obtain transit registration or temporary permission from the Interim NIMC before undertaking such activities.
The council also informed that its office will remain functional for registration of newly qualified graduates in the Indian System of Medicine, including BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BSRMS graduates, and for all matters related to professional and regulatory compliance.
