Kohima, April 26 (MExN): Assam Rifles carried out a series of community outreach activities across Nagaland, including an animal care awareness programme, a donation drive and a dental health camp, aimed at promoting social welfare and strengthening civil-military relations.
On the occasion of World Veterinary Day, Assam Rifles organised an animal care awareness programme at Tening in Peren district on April 26. The event saw participation from 50 students and five teachers of Government Primary School, Tening.
The programme focused on educating children about animal welfare and the importance of compassion towards animals. A lecture highlighted aspects such as proper nutrition, timely medical care and humane treatment, while encouraging students to develop empathy towards both domestic and stray animals. An interactive session was also held.
In another initiative, Assam Rifles organised a donation drive at the Care and Support Society Orphanage Home in Chungtia village, Mokokchung, under its Philanthropy Box Initiative. The initiative involved collection of essential items through voluntary contributions from troops and their families, which were later distributed to children at the orphanage.
The staff of the orphanage appreciated the effort, while the children interacted with the personnel, making the event a meaningful experience. The initiative aimed at supporting underprivileged children and fostering social responsibility.
Meanwhile, a dental health camp was conducted by Assam Rifles for children at Sumi Baptist Church in Tuensang district on April 25. A total of 32 patients received treatment, including consultations, restorations and extractions.
Oral hygiene awareness was also emphasised during the camp, and toothbrushes were distributed among the participants to promote preventive dental care.
These initiatives reflect the continued efforts of Assam Rifles to enhance community welfare, improve access to healthcare and promote awareness on social and environmental issues in remote areas.
