Assam Rifles conducts civic action programmes

Dimapur, September 26 (MExN): Various battalions of the Assam Rifles organised civic action programmes across the state of Nagaland over the past few days. 

According to a press release from the HQ IGAR (N), on September 25, the Kohima Battalion organised a free medical camp at North Kikruma village, under Phek district where 52 patients including children were examined.

The free medical camp was highly appreciated bythe villagers who got assistance and advice from the medical team, the release stated. The medical team examined 52 patients including children, besides distributing free medicines to the needy locals. 

In Pherima village under Dimapur district, the Ghaspani Battalion organised a Tree Plantation Drive as part of the Clean and Green Nagaland initiative of Assam Rifles on September 25. The event witnessed active participation of approximately 450 people including government dignitaries, civil administrative officials, local people, students, teachers and troops of Assam Rifles, the release stated.

Notably, Union minister for DoNER, Tourism and Culture G Kishan Reddy also took part in the event along with ministers and officials from the state government. The officials and locals appreciated the efforts of Assam Rifles in promoting initiatives to accomplish a clean and green future for Nagaland, the release stated.

Meanwhile in Mokokchung district, the Mokokchung Battalion flagged off a two-day Cycle Rally from Impur to Changki village to commemorate 75 Years of Indian Independence with the theme ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.’ The Cycle Rally team of 11 cyclists will cover a distance of 60 Kms from Impur to Changki over the next two days (September 25 and 26). The ceremony was attended by Mokokchung Superintendent of Police Aotula Imchen and 25 ex-servicemen from Mokokchung and nearby places. The rally was flagged off by Hav Mering Ao, Shaurya Chakra (Retd) who served in 3 Assam Rifles during Burmese Campaign through a live video stream.

Besides being an initiative to foster the spirit of adventure and motivate the youth to join Indian Armed Forces, the expedition also aimed to spread awareness about issues like drug abuse and trafficking, peace, reducing the risk of COVID-19 infection, child abuse and nation building.

On September 24, the Jalukie Battalion in collaboration with Pro Rural Society organised a Solid Waste Management Workshop in Jalukie and Peren town under Peren district. 

The aim of the workshop was to provide knowledge to the locals regarding solid waste and its management. During the lecture-cum-demonstration, it was mentioned that on a daily basis, a human being produces approximately 750 grams of solid waste which is hampering our environment. Special focus on ‘Zero Litter Lifestyle Campaign’ was given and the locals were motivated to recycle items, the release stated.

After the lecture, a small demonstration regarding Vermi Compost project was given to the locals wherein, it was shown that with a very little effort, daily kitchen wastes can be transformed into fertilisers for the kitchen garden, the release stated.

The civic activities on September 24 also included a medical camp-cum-COVID awareness programme organised by the Mon Battalion at Old Jaboka village located at Arunachal- Nagaland border.

Old Jaboka village which falls under Mon district lacks various basic facilities including medical facilities. As such, the aim of the medical camp was to reach out to the people of the remote areas and establish faith and build cordial relations with locals, the release stated.

A total of 65 villagers benefitted from the medical camp and village elders, GB, chairperson and pastor of the village promised their full support and cooperation to the security forces, it added.
