Kohima, September 12 (MExN): The National Lok Adalat in Nagaland disposed of 387 of 444 cases taken up, achieving a settlement amount of Rs 5,25,66,901.2 and a disposal rate of about 87%, according to the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA).
Eleven benches were set up in the district headquarters of the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) under the aegis of the NSLSA on September 12. Of the cases disposed, 318 were at the pre-litigation stage and 69 were pending cases. Cases taken up at the pre-litigation stage included bank recovery, loan recovery and telephone bills, while pending matters included criminal compoundable offences, MACT and other civil cases, stated a press release issued by the NSLSA.
The Dimapur DLSA disposed of the highest number of cases, with 152 cases settled comprising 123 bank recovery cases, three MACT cases, 25 BSNL cases and one pre-institution (mediation and conciliation) matter. The total settlement amount was Rs 1,71,30,176. Neiko Akami, Member Secretary, who participated in the Lok Adalat, gave the introductory note and highlighted the advantages of the Lok Adalat. Longshithung Ezung, Chairman, and Julian, Secretary, of the Dimapur DLSA were the presiding officers, with panel lawyers serving as conciliators assisted by PLVs.
The Kohima DLSA settled 52 bank recovery cases, eight BSNL cases, one commercial suit and one NI Act case, with a total settlement amount of Rs 1,93,72,236. Mezivolu T Therieh, Principal District & Sessions Judge, NJS, and Chairperson, Kohima DLSA, was the Presiding Officer. She gave a brief note on Lok Adalat and how the public should avail benefits using Lok Adalat as a platform rather than fearing it, the release stated. Haiyale Kath, Panel Lawyer, welcomed the beneficiaries and bank officials. Eight panel lawyers as conciliators were assisted by four PLVs.
The Phek DLSA took up 37 pre-litigation bank recovery cases and disposed of all 37, with a total settlement amount of Rs 35,41,222. Duvelu Vero, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, and Kilemsungla Jamir, JMFC-cum-Secretary, were the Presiding Officers, with Vethothi Vero, Chief LADC, and Thukutalu Chizo, Panel Lawyer, serving as conciliators assisted by PLVs.
The Mon DLSA took up 19 pre-litigation and litigation bank recovery cases, disposing of 16 with a settlement amount of Rs 48,78,450. Nokshei Kano, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, and Wokono Yhoshii, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, were the Presiding Officers.
The Peren DLSA took up 51 pre-litigation bank recovery cases and one pre-litigation electricity bill dispute at the Nagaland State Cooperative Bank, Jalukie. Of these, 42 bank recovery cases were settled, with a total settlement amount of Rs 16,23,400. Khrievono Seletsu, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, was the Presiding Officer.
The Kiphire DLSA took up 47 pre-litigation bank recovery cases, disposing of 44 with a settlement amount of Rs 14,49,792. Holika Sukhalu, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, was the Presiding Officer, with Adv. Ayiala Imti, Chief LADC, and Adv. Limkhushi Thongliu, Retainer Lawyer, as conciliators.
The Tuensang DLSA took up five cases involving an outstanding amount of Rs 23,19,547 and disposed of all five with a settlement amount of Rs 8,61,913. Somet Chumden Chang, Principal District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, was the Presiding Officer. Tsaliba, JMFC-cum-Secretary, along with P Herola, Retainer Lawyer, and Ayangla, Panel Lawyer, served as conciliators. The State Bank of India, Main Branch and Bazar Branch, and Nagaland State Cooperative Bank participated.
The Zunheboto DLSA took up five pre-litigation bank recovery cases and disposed of all five with a total settlement amount of Rs 20,63,645. Atoka Achumi, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, and Vesutolu Therie, JMFC-cum-Secretary, were the Presiding Officers, with Easter H. Yepthomi and Vilibo K. Zhimo as conciliators.
The Mokokchung DLSA took up 11 pre-litigation bank recovery cases, disposing of 10 with a total settlement amount of Rs 8,85,610. Victo Sema, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, was the Presiding Officer. Atenla Ao, JMFC, also attended. Watitemjen, Retainer Lawyer; Temjenkokla, Panel Lawyer; Mapujungla; and Chubarenla served as conciliators.
The Wokha DLSA took up five pre-litigation bank recovery cases, of which four were settled, and five pending trial criminal compoundable cases, of which three were settled, with a total settlement amount of Rs 1,91,500. Vitsino Iralu, JMFC-cum-Secretary, was the Presiding Officer. Panel Lawyers Shanchobeni P. Lotha and Abigail Lotha served as conciliators. Renbemo Tungoe, APP; Libeni B Jungio, LADC; bank officials; and PLVs were also present.
The Longleng DLSA took up six pre-litigation cases and four pending litigation cases, disposing of six with a total settlement amount of Rs 5,68,957.22. Kumdilong Kessen, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, was the Presiding Officer. K Bongyei Phom, Retainer Lawyer; Yingloi, Panel Lawyer; and Akongla, Panel Lawyer, served as conciliators, with PLV Asangpongjei also present.
