Dimapur, March 15 (MExN): The Assam Rifles Sentinels Football Tournament 2025 kicked off today at the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School (ARTCS), 3rd Mile, Dimapur, with ARTCS Commandant Brigadier Raman Sharma, SM, as the chief guest.

Ten teams, including one representing each of the North-Eastern states, are participating in the event, and the oath taking ceremony was held at the inauguration.

In the first match of the tournament, the Director General of the Assam Rifles (DGAR) team defeated Mizoram 4-1.

According to an official release, four matches will be played daily at 3rd Mile, Dimapur Garrison, and Nagaland Armed Police Training Centre, Chümoukedima, during the knockout phase.

Thereafter, the top two teams will advance to Shillong to compete in the finals, which will be conducted by HQ DGAR, Laitkor, Shillong.

The tournament aims to identify potential talent from the region, foster sportsmanship and friendship among the states, and promote peace and tranquility, the release stated.

The opening ceremony also featured cultural events, including performances by the Pipe and Brass Band of the Assam Rifles and a display by the Martial Arts team, it added.
