Kohima, August 3 (MExN): The Angami Students' Union (ASU) on Monday conducted a peaceful public awareness drive across Kohima, covering the areas around Mezhür Higher Secondary School, Little Flower Higher Secondary School, G. Rio Higher Secondary School, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School and Ministers' Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School.
In a press release, the union said the initiative focused on parents, official drivers and local business owners to promote civic responsibility and a disciplined environment for students.
ASU volunteers distributed informational pamphlets highlighting Section 22.5(f) of the Nagaland Transport Department Rules, which stipulates that government-allotted vehicles are to be used strictly for official public duties.
The union also reminded nearby commercial establishments that the sale of tobacco or other intoxicating products within a 100-yard radius of educational institutions is prohibited under Section 6(b) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, and Section 77 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
The ASU said ethical values and moral character are shaped by the everyday conduct of adults and stressed that responsible use of public resources and strict adherence to laws governing commercial activities near schools are essential for fostering honesty and discipline among young people.
It said the union would continue to monitor compliance with these legal provisions through periodic awareness and inspection drives to uphold public ethics and accountability.
The ASU urged public servants and business owners to remain conscious of their social responsibilities and comply with the relevant legal frameworks.
The union also expressed appreciation to parents, citizens and members of the local community for their cooperation and shared commitment towards ensuring a safe, healthy and principled environment for students.
