Dimapur, March 30 (MExN): The 44th general conference cum 13th Excellency Award programme of the Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) was held today at IMC with Subonenba Longkumer, Director CECS, Nodal Director, Childline Nagaland, as the guest speaker.
ASUD in a press release stated that the programme began with invocation by Limaakum, Youth Director Incharge, DABA followed by welcome address by Lanutoshi Aier, outgoing President (ASUD). Special songs were performed by Sentikala and Moajungla Jamir during the first session. Certificates of merit were also presented to all the academic achievers in the past two years. The function was graced by representatives of various tribal bodies including members of the DNSU.
The guest speaker while urging the students to develop a love for one’s mother tongue, dwelt on the importance of knowing one’s true cultural roots and that simply putting on traditional attires and gears during special occasions does not portray one’s true identity. He further expressed that one needs to do away with the practice of pursuing education without a definite goal. This, he opined, was the main cause of today’s “educated but unemployable” scenario plaguing Nagaland. He therefore called upon the students to develop a proper career plan and to develop positive work ethics.
The second session of the programme witnessed reports from various committees accompanied by a time of interaction and discussion. The oath of office to the newly nominated members was administered by Sungkum Aier, Convenor, Nominating Committee. Thereafter, a special prayer was offered for the newly nominated members as well as those whose tenure ended today by Imnatoshi Longkumer, Associate Pastor DABA.
The programme ended with benediction by Sunep Jamir, former ASUD member.
The newly office bearers of the ASUD for the tenure 2019-2020 include Moayanger Jamir of Chuchuyimlang village as President, Temsukaba Aier of Mopungchuket as Vice President, Aoniken Walling of Khensa as General Secretary and Lanuwapang of Asangma as Assistant General Secretary. In addition, Limatemsu Longkumer, Limatangit Lemtur and Imcha Longkumer have been appointed as the new Advisors of the ASUD.
