Dimapur, August 24 (MExN): The Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) on Sunday issued a strong statement outlining its position on several pressing social and justice issues, ranging from youth violence and denial of justice to teachers, to the unresolved Pimla murder case and alleged fraudulent activities undermining indigenous rights.
The statement was issued by ASUD president Imnatemsu Pongen and general secretary Tongpangnechet Kichu.
ASUD said it “continues to stand firm on matters that affect students, educators, and the wider community.” The Union maintained that the concerns raised were “not isolated concerns but matters that directly affect the dignity, safety, and future of our people.”
“ASUD reiterates that it will not remain a silent spectator but will actively voice out, support, and act wherever justice and accountability are at stake,” the statement read.
Youth violence in Dimapur
Expressing alarm at the “rising incidents of bullying and assault among students and young people in Dimapur,” the Union said that such acts “have no place in our society and directly undermine the values of discipline, respect, and brotherhood that we seek to uphold.”
The student body made clear that if “any individual found to be involved in such acts belongs to the Ao student community, the Union will not remain a mere spectator. Firm disciplinary measures will be taken against the erring individuals, as no one will be allowed to tarnish the name and integrity of our community.”
It urged all students and youth “to practice responsibility, empathy, and respect toward one another.”
Pimla murder case
ASUD extended “its full support to the Zeliangrong Youth Organisation Nagaland (ZYON) and allied bodies in their pursuit of justice for the victim of the Pimla murder case.”
“It is deeply disturbing that even after months, the culprit walks free on bail while the victim and her grieving family continue to suffer without justice. This failure not only exposes the weakness of our justice delivery system but also erodes public faith in governance and the rule of law,” it said.
Reiterating that “justice delayed is justice denied,” ASUD called upon the State government to “immediately release the forensic report, expedite the investigation, and ensure that those responsible are held accountable without further delay.”
“The dignity of our people and the credibility of our institutions depend on how swiftly and sincerely justice is delivered,” it added.
Alleged fraudulent activities
The Union also declared its firm support to the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) as it proceeds with action against Nirmal Jain over allegations of fraudulent acquisition of indigenous certificates, benami dealings, and land exploitation.
“It is deeply troubling that despite serious allegations… meaningful response came from the authorities within the given 15-day timeframe,” ASUD said.
“Now, with DNSU initiating ‘concrete measures,’ it is imperative that the Government of Nagaland and law enforcement act swiftly and transparently to uphold the rights of indigenous communities and the rule of law.”
ASUD further urged that legal actions be expedited, improperly acquired documents and properties annulled, and “that Nirmal Jain and any complicit entities are held accountable.”
“The dignity of Naga land rights and institutional integrity demands no less,” it added.
