Mokokchung, May 29 (MExN): The Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Ongpangkong North Block, Mokokchung conducted two-day training and demonstration programme at Mokokchung village on May 22 and 24.
Training on Management of Fall Army Worm was conducted on May 22 where resource person Tsuktirenla S Jamir, ATM discussed about the occurrence and spread of the pest. She stressed on how it could cause huge damage to crops and reduce yield which could be devastating to particularly to small farmers as it directly impacts their livelihood. She also shared on their management techniques and how to employ scientific method to battle the FAW invasion.
Altogether 15 farmers (10 female and 5 male) attended the training, where bio-pesticides were distributed to the farmers, informed a press release issued by Watisenla Imchen, Block Technology Manager, Ongpangkong North, ATMA Mokokchung.
A demonstration on Integrated Pest Management was also conducted where ATM, Lanusanen I Jamir highlighted the careful evaluation of each pest infestation and understanding of the lifecycle of pests, possible damage, natural enemies etc before implementing a control plan. Some mechanical management of pest like: preparation and setting up of yellow sticky traps and pheromone traps were demonstrated to the participants.
Meanwhile, training on jhum field management was conducted on May 24. During the programme, resource person Tsuktirenla S Jamir, ATM, discussed on the management of Jhum field and spoke to the farmers on the occurrence of pests and diseases in Jhum field and its organic management. She also highlighted the ill effects of pests and diseases in jhum field which result in resurgence of new pests and their effects on human health and soil health in the long run.
Inputs like neem oil, roban, bio-pesticides were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 15 farmers attended the training.
