ATMA field functionaries trained on importance of post harvest care

Medziphema, November 2 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema organised online training programme on ‘entrepreneurship development through post harvest management and value addition of horticultural crops’ for ATMA functionaries on October 29 and 30.

A press release from the SAMETI stated that the programme was aimed to train ATMA field functionaries at creating awareness and understanding about the importance of post harvest care and value addition to reduce losses after harvest and increase food availability throughout the year thereby providing food and nutritional securities. 

The training also highlighted how appropriate post harvest management and processing can utilise unmarketable produce and processing waste for gainful purpose besides generating employment and rural industrialization.

Resource persons for the training were Dr Gracely I Yepthomi, Assistant Professor and Dr Sentirenla Jamir, Assistant Professor from Department of Horticulture, NU: SASRD Medziphema. Topics on   value addition of horticultural crops – importance of value addition, home scale value addition on fruits and vegetables, pickle preparation, green tea, canning of fruits and vegetables, value addition in flowers; and entrepreneurship development through post harvest management – introduction to post harvest technology, entrepreneurial development, schemes available for entrepreneurial development and lucrative enterprises under  post harvest technology were covered. 

Video clips of some successful entrepreneurs based on post harvest management and e-marketing was showcased to the participants.

The training saw a good turnout of participants from all districts of the state. Feedback was received from all the participant and e-Certificates was forwarded to the participants.
