Kohima, February 17 (MExN): ATMA Jakhama block conducts field demonstrations on package of practices for French Beans and demonstrations on Green Pea was conducted at Farm School Pfuchama village on February 8. 

Hand on demonstration on field preparation, line sowing, spacing and its health benefits were shared to the farmers. Nursery bed preparation and sowing of Onion seeds was also given hand on demonstration where the importance of nursery bed preparation, its maintenance and timely irrigation and interventions till transplanting were shared to the farmers.

ATMA Jakhama team conducted field demonstrations on post harvest management for Large Cardamom at Khuzama Cardamom farm, package of practices for French beans, green peas and sowing of Potato at Potato farm school Khuzama on February 11.

Field demonstration at Cardamom farm begins with the harvest of the cardamom, cleaning, sorting and methods of drying were shown. The farmers were taught on the harvest method, calyx cutting and its curing methods also on the importance of the crop. The farmers along with the team actively participated in the harvest as well as the cleaning of the capsules. Later farmers were given Hand on demonstration on line sowing of green peas and French beans, spacing and its health benefits, importance of intercropping were also shared.

At the Potato Farm School, the farm school teacher Mr. Veneisa Luho gave hand demonstration on potato sowing, methods of field preparation, spacing, manuring and timely weeding were shared to the fellow farmers.

On February 16, the team conducted field demonstration on package of practices for Ginger and Leek at Mitelephe village with Women FIG group. Resource persons highlighted on the importance of both the crops, its commercial values and encourage the farmers to grow more local varieties. Row to row and rhizome spacing were taught where the team actively participated in the sowing of both the crops.

All the activities were conducted at farm schools and demo plots, participated by women FIGs, farmers’ friends and BFAC members from the mentioned villages. The resource persons were ATMA Jakhama block teams- Vimenuo Mere, BTM; Atuno Zinyü, ATM; Neitouzo Belho, ATM and Ketholezo Kipu, ATM.
