Mon, October 9 (MExN): ATMA Mon district conducted various training and demonstrations in various blocks over the last weeks.
Angjangyang block: ATMA, Mon Angjangyang block conducted training and demonstration programme on October 5 and 6 covering Angjangyang, Changlang and Angphang village. On a daylong session, farmers from various groups were trained on package and practices of cabbage such as spacing, seed rate, insect-pest management and disease control etc.
Further, demonstration on seed bed preparation on winter crops, rodent control and production of oyster mushroom were also conducted. The resource persons of the programme were Nemchaba Jamir BTM, Leiwang Konyak ATM and Longerkaba ATM. Altogether 68 participants were benefited from the programme. Seeds, rodenticides and mushroom spawn were distributed to the farmers.
Wakching block: ATMA Mon Wakching block conducted training programme on October 3 at Naginimora on 'cultivation of cabbage and its diseases management'. The resource person Wanshom Konyak highlighted on planting, spacing and the major diseases of cabbage and how to control them. She encouraged the farmers to use wide space planting to promote drying of leaves.
Later on demonstration on cultivation of oyster mushroom was showed step by step and the nutritional value and health benefits were apprised to the farmers. Seeds, mushroom spawns, poly bags etc were distributed to the participants.
Mon block: ATMA Mon block conducted a demonstration programme on ‘biodegradable banana stem as planting media for vegetables’ at Shangnyu village on September 30.
The resource person, Manlen ATM emphasized on the easy, cost-effective and biodegradable method of using banana stem as an alternative media for growing short-root plants and vegetables instead of letting it go wasted after harvest of banana. She demonstrated on how to prepare the stem for planting seeds or saplings. And further explained on how the medium provides moisture and the decomposed stem enriches the soil. Vegetable seeds were distributed to the participants
Phomching block: ATMA Mon Phomching Block conducted frontline demonstration programme in Tangnyu village on September 29. The resource person Diezelhouno Chücha gave demonstration on the topic "package of practices of radish". On a small plot of land the resource person showed the participants on how to prepare a nursery bed and told them to sow the seed about an in inch deep inside the soil. The resource person also gave instructions on how to carefully transplant the saplings from the nursery bed to the fields.
Altogether 12 participants attended the demonstration programme. Seeds of various vegetables were also distributed among the farmers after the programme.
Aboi block: ATMA Mon Aboi block conducted demonstration program in longching village on the topic nursery bed preparation of winter vegetables on September 15. The trainees from two SHG group from longching village attended the program, where the resources person Miss. linoto, emphasized on the importance of soil preparation, proper aeration to increase the rate of germination.
The resources person demonstrated on the scientific method of nursery bed preparation. Tomato, cabbage and onion nursery bed were prepared at the demonstration plot in Longching village for the trainees and garden pea were also distributed to the SHG groups.
Tizit block: ATMA Mon, Tizit block conducted training and demonstration programme on August 8 at Lapa Lampong village. Training on management of soil fertility and productivity for sustainable agriculture was conducted where the resource person Nchumthung Murry ATM explained the importance and benefits of cover crops, mulching and integrated nutrients management.
Resource person Lensanok Tzuwar ATM demonstrated on oyster mushroom cultivation. He deliberated on the benefits of mushroom cultivation, value addition and its contribution in elevating the economic status of the family.
