Ralan, February 17 (MExN): ATMA Ralan block conducted demonstration programmes on ‘preparation of bordeaux mixture’, ‘application of trichoderma on ginger rhizome’ and ‘preparation of neem oil’ on February 6.
The first demonstration was conducted by Z Nchumthung Shitirie, ATM on preparation of Bordeaux mixture and its application at Liphanyan Village. The resource person, before the start of the demonstration explained the benefits and the effectiveness of the mixture and to ensure that the farmers use the mixture in moderation so as to avoid harm to the soil and the crops.
The second demonstration was carried out by Longshithung Lotha, Agriculture Officer on “Preparation of Neem Oil” at Liphanyan Village. The resource person pointed out the benefits and its effectiveness in controlling pests without harming the soil due to its organic origins. He demonstrated by showing the farmers with the help of freshly plucked leaves and a bucket of water. He explained by taking 1kg of green neem leaves and mixing it with 5 litres of water and told the farmers to soak it overnight. He also demonstrated the steps for neem seed extract.
The third demonstration ‘application of trichoderma on Ginger Rhizome’ was conducted at New Chandalashung Village by Soyingbeni Tsanglao, ATM. The resource person before carrying out the demonstration briefed the farmers about the calendar operations of ginger. She also illustrated the cause of infections/infestations on ginger and means of controlling it. She emphasised why it was important to go for seed treatment before sowing. Trichoderma viridi(liquid) at the rate of 5ml/L of water was used for treating the rhizomes, the rhizomes were soaked in the solution for 30 minutes, later the treated rhizomes were kept under the shade in open air to dry.
