ATMA Sechü-Zubza conducts demo

Kohima, February 27 (MExN): ATMA Sechü-Zubza block conducted demonstrations on nursery bed preparation of onion and tomato and sowing of green pea using Api seeder at Farm School, Sechü-Zubza on February 23.

ATM Keviravono Visa and AFA Thepfulelie Yhome were the resource persons. The resource person emphasized on the importance of nursery bed inorder to obtain uniform and healthy seedlings and also gave a brief explanation on land preparation for transplanting and care and management to be followed till harvest. The resource person also explained on the advantages of using Api seeder as it helps toreduce working hours, maintenance of proper plant spacing as well as reduce seed costs and obtain greater yield.

Later farmers were given hands on demonstration on both nursery preparation and operation of agricultural tools/machines such as api seeder, mini cultivator and potato planter. Seeds used for onion was Nasik Red (N-53) and F1-Hybrid keshav (3308) Sakata for tomato.

Another demonstration programme was conducted at Khonoma Alder based farm school on February 25. Demonstration on nursery bed preparation of cabbage and line sowing of radish and potato was conducted by ATM Thejavizonuo Kelio and ATM Ketsivino Nakhro as resource persons. The importance of nursery bed preparation, line sowing, spacing, maintenance and timely irrigation were shared to the farmers. They were also appraised on how raised beds are necessary to avoid problems of water logging, maintenance of spacing so that each seed/ plant gets enough nutrients for growth and also helps in carrying out intercultural operations such as watering and weeding. Field sanitation practices as well as pests and disease management were also briefed upon. 

Hands on demonstration were carried out with active participation of functionaries and farmers. Cabbage varieties- Rare Ball and Golden Acre and Radish- Agro hybrid seeds were used for demonstration.
