Mon, March 16 (MExN): An awareness campaign on conservation and protection of forest and wildlife to mitigate human animal conflict and wildlife crime, nature conservation and biodiversity conservation was organised jointly by Mon Forest Division and Wildlife Division, Kiphire at Government Senior Higher Secondary School, Mon for students and children, teachers and villagers on March 16.

Raj Priy Singh, IFS, DFO, Mon addressing the nearly 100 participants emphasised on the need for conservation of natural resources for the future generation on sustained basis. He stated that the conservation of forest and environment is not the duty of Forest Department only, but also the fundamental duty of every citizen of the country which has been enshrined in the constitution too.

Deputy Commissioner, Mon Thavaseelan, IAS and special invitee of the programme in his speech stated that the earth is the only liveable planet in the universe. Forests and wildlife play an important role in addressing issues of climate change, food and water security, environment amelioration, in addition to tangible benefits in different forms, and thus sustaining the existence and survival of the Earth. He stated that human beings are totally dependent on plants and wild animals. 

Satya Prakash Tripathi, Chairman, State Biodiversity Board, Nagaland in his keynote address stated the importance of forest and wildlife would be same at different interval of time. Students, children are our future generation and they can play an important role as brand ambassadors for conservation. He also highlighted on human-animal conflict. 

 During the interaction, the questions raised by the students were responded by officials from Forest Department. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Wangshak, Forest Range Officer, Mon.
