Dimapur, April 13 (MExN): Kohima’s youth community today declared “non-cooperation movement” against the armed group FGN for defying resolutions that undertaken recently warning against violence from the underground groups in the capital. Under the aegis of the Angami Youth Organization (AYO), the youth have demanded that the FGN own up responsibility for the shooting of a civilian yet again and punish the rogue cadre as assured.
A press release was received here from the AYO today. The Kohima organizations have also challenged the Government of Nagaland to at least “have the courage” to shoulder its responsibility in safeguarding the public from the armed elements. Youth organizations in the capital met today, April 13, under the aegis of the AYO in Kohima and denounced the shooting of another civilian at PR Hill by one “capt.” Vechizo of the FGN on April 7, 2012.
The FGN, the press release stated, has assured of “severe action” against the accused but till date no information of the action taken has been made known to the public. The organizations have demanded that the FGN own responsibility for the act of its cadre and punish the culprit in a befitting manner.
“The youth organizations have also decided to launch a non-co-operation movement against the NNC/FGN until the culprit is punished and punishment given to him is made known to the public,” the statement said.
The organizations have asked the business community, contractors and suppliers, transporters, and all peace loving citizens of Kohima not to entertain the FGN until and unless the armed group makes it known to the public what action it has taken against its rogue cadre.
“The youth organizations also question the sincerity of the Government of Nagaland in safeguarding the safety of the public from armed elements. The youth organizations demand that the Government of Nagaland should have the courage to shoulder its responsibility in safeguarding the public from armed elements and live up to its assurance that it had given to the youth on 2nd April, 2012,” the AYO release said.
The statement reminded that time and again civil organizations have been appealing to all the underground groups to shun violence and bloodshed. On March 21, 2012 the youth of Kohima had resolved that ‘if any factional clash occurs or attempts to disrupt the peaceful environment in the town are made, the youth will jointly take its own course of action.’
“This was also published in the print media. On the 2nd April, 2012, condemning the various incidents in which civilians have become victims of factional violence, the youth of Kohima held a protest rally in Kohima against the law and order situation in Kohima and had submitted a representation to the Home Minister, Government of Nagaland,” the youth said. However, the organizations lamented, the reactions seem to have fallen on deaf ears. “Within a few days another civilian has become the victim of an armed cadre of the FGN.”
