Azheto kicks off WSSA sports championship

Dimapur, January 17 (MExN): The 12th meet of Western Sumi Sports Association (WSSA) got off to a flying start this morning at Suhoi village of Kuhuboto area. The meet is being organized under the theme “to communicate the universe”. Shri. Azheto Zhimomi, MLA and Advisor, Sericulture and Co-operation, Nagaland graced the opening ceremony as chief guest and declared the tourney open. He also unfurled the flag of the association.   Speaking occasion, chief guest called upon the youth to avail various avenues initiated by the government for the up-bring of the youth. He said DAN government is giving maximum privilege to the youth which the younger generation should take advantage.  He encouraged the participants and organizers of the meet to endeavour to produce good sportspersons through such meet and provide them opportunity to compete in higher level of competitions.
Urging the players to maintain good sportsmanship spirit as they compete against each other, Azheto discipline is most important aspect for a sportsperson. He was of the view that the people should acknowledge the contribution made by all to make the event a reality through which young people are able to hone their talents. He also said that let there be peace, spirit of understanding and brotherhood among the people of different villages. As a token of love he donated a sum of Rs. 75,000 toward WSSA, Rs. 50,000 towards the host village and Rs. 5000 each to two cultural troupes and to Ilitoli Aye who presented special numbers during opening ceremony. Vice President of Nagaland Olympic Association, Er. K. Keditsu who is also the president of Royal Club, Nagaland and Chief Advisor of Dimapur Municipal Council also graced the occasion and delivered a short speech. He also maintained that government is giving opportunities to youth through music and sports. Government is also giving incentive to those who are excelling. Stating that music and sports have become industries he urged the youth not take up music or sports just for enjoyment or pass time but to give interest and emerge as successful musician and sportspersons who are respected and loved by people all over the world. As a token of appreciation he donated a sum of Rs. 10,000 towards the association.

Kakuho Yeptho, Head GB and WSSA board member chaired the opening ceremony, Khehovi Chophy, President KGPO welcomed all the participants and dignitaries to the meet, Zhehoto Chishi, president, WSSA introduced the delegates and Phushito Zhimo, head GB and chief advisor, WSSA proposed vote of thanks.      14 villages/teams representing various areas of Western Sumi are vying for football championship while 18 villages/teams are participating in volleyball. Starting its campaign to defend the football title, Khughovi team trounced equally strong Ato Area team in a well fought encounter by 3 goals to 2.
The closing ceremony will be graced by T. Mughavi Zhimomi, Deputy General Manager, Aerodrome, Airport Authority of India as guest of honour.
