DIMAPUR, OCT 4 (mexn): Bamboo Industry in Nagaland seems headed for further growth if latest undertakings of the State government to develop the industry are anything to go by. Talking exclusively to The Morung Express the Director of Land Resource Development Department, Norman Putsure disclosed that the industry was to be introduced to various new projects and technological facilities.
“It is not only to develop traditional crafts systems but also to (explore) other areas like training on appropriate dye technology, design inputs as well” said the Director.
According to him the facilities have been suggested to introduce renowned designers and upgrade the traditional system of crafts, at least in terms of technology. On the latest development on the development front, Putsure also disclosed that a new technology called Activated Carbon processor would be introduced, suggested as being in the capacity of about 2 Units of Megatons. According to him the processor would be the first in the North East.
Furthermore a bamboo stockyard area would be set aside at the erstwhile Dimapur Sugar Mill, to grow different bamboo species for industrial treatment, selling, preservation and quality nurturing of bamboo. A Common Facility Center (CFC) with the requisite machineries would be set up, he added. Professor Mohan Gulrajani, Professor of Technology, IIT told this paper that seven new coloration techniques could be employed to give various designs and polish shades unlike the traditional varnishing.
It can be used both on bamboo fiber products as well as on hard-mould designs like furniture and carvings.
