KOHIMA, JANUARY 4 (MExN): The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Kohima, Rhosietho Nguori, has issued an order following reports that certain organizations and associations within Kohima Municipal wards and villages had authorized "shoot-at-sight" orders for stray dogs.
In an official statement, ADC Nguori emphasized that such actions are in violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (PCA Act), as well as the Bharatiya Naya Sanhita (BNS), both of which explicitly prohibit the killing of animals, including stray dogs. These actions, the ADC pointed out, are considered illegal under Indian law.
Any sighting of stray dogs should be reported to the Kohima Municipal or Town Council Authorities in urban areas, and to the respective village authorities or Area Administrative Officers in rural zones. The concerned authorities, in collaboration with the Chief Veterinary Office, will manage the situation as per established procedures under the relevant laws.
The ADC also warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found violating this directive, under the relevant provisions of the PCA Act and other applicable laws.
