Basketry making workshop held in Kohima

Dimapur, March 21 (MExN):  Under its Umang Programme, the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India joined hands with Department of Art & Culture, Nagaland and Cherry Blossoms Society, Kohima to organise a workshop on basketry making in Kohima from March 16-17. 

The workshop at Cherry Blossoms School, Lerie Kohima, was held under the guidance of three experts namely Joyiti Gurung, Seli Tucker and Purnima Kayina.

Cherry Blossoms School students along with the 32 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and 8 escorts from the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) PwDs attended the workshop, informed an NEZCC release. 

According to the centre, basket is basic needs for a home and also essential to store as well as external usages such as shopping.

During the workshop, raw materials were provided and children were asked to work on it to make their own designs according to their creativity, it said. 

On the first day, children were taught how to measure and cut the plastic rope and later everyone was given time and hand holding on how to start and making the basket, it added.
