BASLT and DNST condemn alleged sexual assault of minor

Dimapur, August 15 (MExN): The Bendanglen Alir Saring Lanur Tejongjem (BASLT) and Dimapur Nokpu Senso Telongjem (DNST) today vehemently condemned the alleged sexual assault of a 3 year-old minor by one Moakaba Aier at Saring village (Nokpu-B village) on August 10. 

Condemning the act as “heinous and barbaric,” the BASLT urged the concerned authority to expedite the case and consider it as “rarest of the rare case” and deliver justice as per the relevant sections of the law at the earliest. 

The association further requested the concerned authority not to grant bail to accused “until befitting justice is delivered” 
“Failing which, the concerned authority shall be held solely responsible for any untoward incident arising thereafter,” asserted the condemnation note issued by the BASLT Convenor B Lanu Longchar and Secretary Toshi Longkumer. 

The BASLT further urged all right thinking to vehemently condemn the act and come together in support of the victim
Meanwhile, the DNST stated that it was “aghast and appalled” by such an unexpected and “inhuman act” and unequivocally condemned it in the strongest terms. The union also demanded that law enforcement agencies not grant bail to the accused.

A condemnation note issued by DNST President P Toshi and General Secretary Tsuktitoshi Imchen also appealed to the authorities to extend financial assistance to the victim to enable her to undergo necessary therapy or treatment as soon as possible.

Furthermore, the DNST expressed gratitude to everyone who stood firmly to deliver justice in support of the victim and her family, especially during these traumatic times.

The accused, reportedly a ‘Sergeant’ of NSCN-K (Khango) was subsequently arrested by the Mokochung Police after the incident and booked under Section 65(2) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita or Indian Justice Code) along with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The NSCN-K (Khango) on August 14 also announced the termination of ‘Sergeant’ Aier from active national service with the Naga army, effective immediately, due to the “unwarranted incident” and denounced it as an “inhuman act.”
