Biodiversity Peace Corridor launched at Choklangan

Noklak, March 9 (MExN): Chief Secretary & Finance Commissioner, Temjen Toy launched a Biodiversity Peace Corridor at Choklangan village bordering Myanmar under Noklak district on March 9. The programme also coincided with inauguration of a new school building under Composite Education Model.
To facilitate the peace corridor, a total of 10 forest owners donated their ancestral forests for setting up a biodiversity conservation area and the agreement was signed on April 18, 2019. Since then, hunting and logging in the area has been stopped. The signatories agreed to adhere to the norms of the Biodiversity Conservation Area and not to withdraw their support.
Speaking during the programme, Temjen Toy who was the special guest expressed delight to see community participation in biodiversity conservation and also how the community contributed and participated towards constructing the school building. Although the village did not submit any memorandum to the government, Toy expressed the hope that the government officers who accompanied him had seen the needs of the village and would do their best in the interest of the people. He said though the village was located in a remote area, the village had produced prominent leaders and officers.
Principal Secretary, SCERT and School Education, Menukhol John who was the special invitee spoke on ‘Values and Prospect in Community Participation.’
Introduction on the Peace Corridor and the roadmap was presented by Y Nuklu Phom. In his speech, Nuklu said maintaining peace should not be confined only among human beings but with animals and biodiversity as well. He said the State is fortunate to have a Chief Secretary who has huge concern for downtrodden people and expressed hope that positive transformation in Nagaland would be realized under his leadership.
Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang and Chairman, Choklangan Village Council also spoke during the programme.
The Chief Secretary was accompanied by DGP, John Longkumer; Commissioner & Secretary, Y Kikheto Sema IAS and a host of departmental officers.
