Dimapur, June 19 (MExN): The Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (youth wing of BJP) North-East States in an ‘appraisal report to BJP national leaders’ stated that it is seriously viewing the developments of an organization’s threat issued to Rengma community of Borlangso, Jamre, Khirang and Socheng Longri Bastis leaving their ancestral lands and exodus of western Rengma people to safer localities.
The report submitted by BJYM NE convenor, Hayithung Bill Lotha, was addressed to Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposition (Lok Sabha) and Arun Jaitly, Leader of Opposition (Rajya Sabha) states. It that such “fissures and misunderstanding” between two friendly communities was apparently the handiwork and strategy of the congress regime in Assam led by the “communal minded, ineffective and lack luster” Assam Congress chief minister, Tarun Gogoi. “In spite of Rengma organizations repeated representations and memorandums citing grievances of Rengmas submitted to Assam Government but nothing has been addressed for the welfare of the Rengmas and Congress has instead ‘marginalize developmentally’ and ‘utter neglect’ of the western Rengmas,” the Morcha stated further.
Further, it alleged that “the scheme of the Congress regime in Assam because due to their evil design culture of vote bank Politics the harmony and unified fabric is about to totally collapse and broken into pieces in Assam.” It also noted, “Today Assam has no friendly relations with all its neighboring states due to congress regimes administration failure and border policy failure.”
In the report, it said that as per historical records, the Rengma Naga tribe has been the original settlers even before the first Burmese evasion of Ahoms in 1816, and the British declared that traditional geographical boundary of the Rengma Hills on April 18, 1841. The present area inhabited by the western Rengmas was part of the Naga Hills District created in 1867. That the Rengma Reserve Forest was also created as per the Naga Hills District Reserve Forests by a notification dated April 13, 1887.
The BJYM NE in considering the “Karbi organization’s peaceful U-Turn” in taking back the threat to the western Rengma is a big relief and a “great humanitarian gesture” which is highly appreciated as a “noble act and honorable decision”. The BJYM NE reminded both the Rengmas and Karbis to “honor and respect” the harmonious, cordial, friendly, brotherly centuries old ties and not be led astray by Assam’s congress regime “divide and rule” tactics among tribal groups.
