DIMAPUR, JUNE 6 (MExN): The Kyong Hoho, Wokha District GBs Union and the Kyong Hoho Mokokchung Unit met the Ao Senden today and extended solidarity and support to the Ao Senden and its demands. The Ao Senden and Kyong Hoho later met Nagaland Border Affairs Minister, Y Patton at the Mokokchung DC’s Conference Hall.

The Ao Senden and Kyong Hoho expressed appreciation to the Minister for his visit “during the needy situation, showing concern and seriousness taken on the immense sufferings often meted out by illegal immigrants residing in Assam in the border area.”  In a joint representation to the Minister, the Ao Senden and Kyong Hoho reiterated a four-point resolution arrived at between them.

The resolution demanded that the 1972 interim agreement between the governments of Nagaland and Assam in connection with the border issue be withdrawn immediately. It further stated that the memorandum submitted by the Ao Senden to the Nagaland government should be fulfilled, and not by “vague promises.” They urged the Nagaland government to bring up the border issue to the notice of the Government of India at the earliest, “for permanent solution acceptable to all parties.”

It added that the “so-called Border Dispute Area “must be solved or settled at the highest level consisting of the Nagaland and Assam governments. From the Ao Senden, the president Dr Sangyu Yaden and General Secretary, Tsupong Lonchar, while from the Kyong Hoho, the President Yansathung Jami and General Secretary, Michael Yanthan appended the memorandum.

Earlier in a meeting with the Minister, sources stated that the Ao Senden remained resolute in their stand and resolved that its demands to the Nagaland State government be implemented not in words, but in action. The meeting is reported to have deliberated at length about the Foothill Road, where the Ao Senden provided suggestions for alternate routes. The Minister is said to have personally assured the delegation that he would appraise the government for prompt action into the matter.

Meanwhile, a government delegation led by Minister Y Patton, along with Banuo Z. Jamir, Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner had earlier visited Saringyim village.
