Boundary dispute between Sovima, Sugar Mill village settled

Dimapur, August 27 (MExN): In a historic move towards upholding the spirit of Naga brotherhood and peace between two villages, Sovima Village and Sugar Mill Village reached to an agreement of permanently resolving the age old village boundary dispute between the two villages. 

In a gathering of elders and leaders of the two villages at the village boundary between the two villages on August 27, 2010, the village authority of the two villages in presence of Councils of Model village (7th Mile) and Chumukedima village demarcated the village boundary of Sovima and Sugar Mill villages by erecting boundary pillars and accepting that the boundary dispute between the two villages has been unanimously settled once and for all.  

According to an agreement signed by Sovima Village Council Chairman, Neikhriehu Kense and Secretary, Jasahie Rupre-o and Sugar Mill Village Council Chairman, Nehoshe Chophy and Secretary, Kivigho Zhimomi, village council of both the villages held a joint meeting on June 26, 2010 at Sovima Council hall and arrived to a unanimous decision to solve the long pending boundary impasse.

The MOU between the two villages stated that Sovima village which was established in 1966 with permission of Chumukedima village, have accepted Sugar Mill village as son village so as to preserve the Naga traditional values.

The agreement also recorded that the boundary demarcated by the two villages be final and binding and no further claimant or encroachment on either side would occur.

It also mentioned that it shall be the endeavour of Sovima village council to withdraw all the case in regard to recognition of Sugar Mill village which are pending in the judicial court and issue no objection certificate to Sugar Mill village and pursue for recognition of full fledged village. 

A peace feast was hosted after all the formal undertakings were completed on August 27, 2010.
