Bring back teachers to classrooms: NSF

DIMAPUR, DEC 21 (MExN): The government has been asked to recall teachers ‘attached’ to various departments to their rightful place in classrooms. “Presently, teachers numbering between 300-450 has been attached to various establishments and delegated with responsibilities other than teaching for which they have been appointed,” a release issued by NSF President V Phushika Aomi said.

In a document addressed to the Director of School Education, the student body has alleged that the identified root cause of the deteriorating educational system in Nagaland is the attachment of teachers in the offices of the DSE, DEO, DIS, SSA, EBRC and offices of headmasters/headmistresses, ministers, parliamentary secretaries and MLAs through political interference.

“The fact that the department spends huge amounts of resources from the public coffer every year but (which) has failed to produce quality students is an issue that is assuming dangerous proportions,” Aomi said.

The federation has also observed that the most experienced teachers have been picked up by the department to act as co-coordinators/assistant co-coordinators in EBRCs and SSA departments leaving behind lesser-qualified and lesser experienced teachers to teach in schools, particularly in remote areas.

“The Federation is aware of your department’s program to re-deploy all attached teachers in DSE, DIS and DEO in the early part of this year which could not materialize because the program failed to be completely inclusive and left out a few attached teachers,” the student body said.

In this regard, the NSF has appealed to the department to re-deploy all attached teachers in various establishments “In Toto” including attached teachers on medical grounds “so as to avoid further complications.” Further, the education department has also been asked to issue free textbooks to all students before the commencement of the next academic session.
