Feeling the weight of unpaid dues, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Nagaland is contemplating resorting to legal action for the recovery of all unpaid credits and unmet, outstanding returns for all tele-services provided to subscribers and telecom consumers in Nagaland.

Nagaland BSNL Chief General Manager (CGM) Ashok Gholas said that the telecom giant was facing difficulties in meeting its returns and functioning due to huge charge amassed from unpaid bills and to recover the debit, the prospect of filing cases in the court was being contemplated upon seriously. “Cases would be filed in the court against subscribers who have amassed (debits) due to non-payment of (both mobile and telephone line) bills” the CGM said at a press conference held today at the Hotel Saramati, Dimapur.

He said that individual cases for each defaulting consumer would be filed in the court while adding that the BSNL would not resort to ‘other persuasive’ methods but would use ‘civil methods’ to recover unpaid bills. “We won’t use persuasive methods but a civil approach would be used to recover unpaid dues” Golas said at the conference.

However, the CGM also made known that the BSNL at the moment would be concentrating only on providing better services and expanding its base to meet competition from other telecom service-providers and the matter just discussed above would be taken up only later on but a possibility in near future. ‘At the moment we want to concentrate on the positive aspect of it and not the negative. We want to concentrate of providing better services first” the CGM said.

Meanwhile the CGM came to know only at the press conference that the Naga Students Federation (NSF) had issued a summon to all BSNL employees from the group C & D categories to produce relevant work/recruitment from January 29 to the 31st for verification and to detect ‘bogus’ appointees.

The NSF was summoning the said employees in response to what it termed as ‘irresponsiveness’ of the BSNL in meeting the organizations’ demand that 100% quota be allotted to local appointees in the said categories.

Golas maintained ignorance of news reports on the NSF’s much-publicized summon and asked for a copy of a newspaper be both to him to see. Later a staffer from Hotel Saramati brought a newspaper to the CGM. “We would look into it” said the CGM after reading the newspaper, 3 days after the NSF’s notice was issued.

It must be mentioned that the NSF has warned all concerned employees of Group C&D, BSNL, Nagaland to produce their original documents or attested copies to the Federations’ office from January 29 to the 31st failing which the students’ body warned that it would not be held responsible for any next course of action.
