Says Pochury constitute less than 1% of govt workforce
Dimapur, August 18 (MExN): The Pochury Hoho asserted that the job ‘Reservation Review Commission’ should uphold the confidence of the ‘Backward Tribes.’ While welcoming the constitution of the Commission by the Nagaland state government, it reminded that the very essence of job reservation for ‘BTs’ is redressing historical disadvantages and ensuring equitable opportunities for all recognised tribes.
“It is therefore vital that the Commission upholds the confidence of every Backward Tribe, fostering fairness and inclusiveness, while ensuring that no tribe is placed at a disadvantage and the spirit of equity is safeguarded,” stated the hoho in a press statement on August 18.
It termed the constitution of the Commission as timely and decisive, and expressed confidence that it will bring about clarity, balance, and fairness in the reservation policy for the betterment of all communities, as opposed to earlier revisions.
According to the hoho, reviews of the BT job reservation policy, over the years, have disproportionally affected them. As a result, it alleged that the community has been placed at a disadvantage, “reflecting a pattern of systemic neglect, thereby undermining the very spirit of inclusiveness and justice that the policy was intended to uphold.”
It cited employment data of the Pochury from government records justifying the allegation. As per the hoho, Pochury employees constitute a mere 0.78 percent of the total state government workforce. It said, “The total number of Pochury government employees stands at 1,676, of which 780 are Village Guards engaged on an honorarium basis with a monthly payment of Rs 3,000. The actual number of regular employees is only 896…”
Given the significance of the issue, it asserted that the Commission members should be individuals of credibility and integrity. “Such representation will be crucial in ensuring transparency and in upholding the trust and confidence of all tribes in the work of the Commission,” it said.
