'Celebration of cultures’ underway at SJC
Kohima, November 23 (MExN): “Unity in diversity is a peculiarity of India which is a synthesis of diverse social and cultural elements”, Nagaland Governor PB Acharya asserted. “Let us strive in building a world free from malice and full of brotherhood and compassion and to take our country to new heights,” he added.
The Governor was addressing the inaugural talk of a three day National Seminar 2018 under the theme “India’s North East: A Celebration of (Indigenous) Cultures: A Phenomenological Approach” at St Joseph’s College, Jakhama on November 23, PRO to Governor stated in a press release.
He stated that the North East region has the potential to be at par with the rest of the country and that the people must work towards achieving that goal.
The Governor observed that the region is blessed with abundant natural resources and said that to tap these resources, educational institutions need to play an important role.
He stated that skill courses in line with the need of the region should be introduced to benefit students and North East. Unless North East develops India will not develop, he added.
The Governor also urged the North Easterners to be proud of their languages and cultures and utilize the skills and knowledge that they have for development of Northeast India.
The welcome address was proposed by Principal, St Joseph’s College, Fr Dr Sebastian Ousepparampil while a message was delivered by Bishop of Kohima, Rev Dr James Thoppil.
Prof Prasenjit Biswas, Department of Philosophy, NEHU, Shillong gave the key note address on the topic India’s North East, A Celebration of Cultures. The National Seminar will culminate on November 25 where a number of resource persons from various Universities and professionals from across the country are taking part.
The event is being organised by St Joseph’s College, Jakhama and is being sponsored by University Grants Commission.
