Dimapur, February 23 (MExN): C-Edge College Dimapur observed the International Mother Language Day on February 22 on the theme ‘Fostering multilingualism for inclusion in education and society.’
According to a press release from the college, Limugha Zhimo, a student of BA VI Semester hosted the event while the President of Evangelical Union D Esther Sonar of BBA VI Semester pronounced the invocation.
Speaking on the theme, Asst Prof, Department Of Political Science, Duvolu Rhakho stressed on the importance of multilingualism. Highlighting the urgency required by the present generation to understand and learn one’s mother tongue, she urged the gathering to hold on to one’s language while respecting other languages and dialects and to preserve and promote one’s identity. Rhakho further emphasized on the importance of fostering multilingualism in educational foundation and society in general.
According to the release, the BA VI Semester students of English Department enthralled the gathering with a folk fusion while Sapuna and Sotsula of BA II Semester students from the Department Of English recited poems in varied dialects. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Soun Lam of BA VI Semester.
