With the situation in Assam apparently improving after reeling under protests over the newly enacted Citizenship Amendment Act, shortage of supplies in Mokokchung’s market have been replenished as commercial trucks ferrying goods from Jorhat in Assam to Mokokchung have resumed normal operation.
Mokokchung, the state’s third major urban hub is almost wholly dependent on Jorhat market for trade and supplies.
An MCCI official confirmed to The Morung Express that supplies, including essential commodities and perishable items, have been replenished and that the market volatility that was apparent in the past few days was not likely to recur.
The MCCI official informed that commercial trucks have resumed their service and traders are back in business as usual as the situation have improved in neighbouring Jorhat district of Assam. It may be mentioned that Mokokchung and its neighbouring districts are dependent on Jorhat, Assam for market supplies and does not have a single commercial truck operating between them and Dimapur, the state’s commercial hub.
Even as the market returns to normalcy, hundreds of vehicles were found queuing up at the fuel filling stations till Tuesday evening.
On this matter, the MCCI official requested the people not to panic over shortage of fuel in Mokokchung as all the refill stations have resumed normal business and there are uninterrupted transportation by fuel tankers.
