CADCC asks inclusion of Bhandari legislator in Ministerial Group on Petroleum & Natural Gas

DIMAPUR, July 30 (MExN): The Changpang Area Development Co-ordination Committee (CADCC) has expressed shocked and dismay over the Ministrial Group on Petroleum & Natural Gas constituted by the Governor of Nagaland that did not include the “land owner legislator” from 40-Bhandari Assembly Constituency.

“It is pertinent and appropriate to mention the special provision under Article 371A in the constitution of India and the subsequent resolution passed by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on 26.07.2010, the elected Legislator automatically becomes the land owner Legislator of 40-Bhandari Assembly Constituency,” a press release from the CADCC said.

It also reminded that the Government of Nagaland during the last electioneering campaign on February 14 at Changpang ONGC Village, the general public had also demanded the resumption of oil and gas business from the candidate if he gets elected. “To which the elected present MLA has assured the public to take up the oil and gas resumption issue,” it added.

It pointed out that due to non-resumption of oil and gas business in Nagaland, the Government of Nagaland is losing Rs 1800 Crores annually and the state revenue lost on oil and gas was Rs 52,200 Crores since May 1994 to 2023.

The CADCC further reminded that for the first time in the State of Nagaland crude oil and gas was struck from Changpang, Tssori, Wokha by the ONGC in 1973. However, it said that the State Government had suspended all its petroleum and gas activities through Naga public and NSF agitations on May 5, 1994. The CADCC members appealed to the State Government and the Ministrial Group on Petroleum & Gas, to work with the 40-Bhandari Assembly Contituency elected MLA to include him as a co-opted member if not Ministrial Group Member.
