Kohima | March 17

Another clash took place this morning between rival underground cadres here at the state capital that left one person dead and this time again too, injured one civilian. The incident reportedly took place around 8:20 am in the compound of the Naga Hospital Authority in Kohima.

Official sources identified the victim as Ghokivi alias Kito Awomi, son of Zhekuto of Khehoi village under Dhansiripar sub-division, reportedly a “khapur” of the GPRN/NSCN. Unfortunately in the shooting, a civilian was also injured. The civilian is reported to be an attendant of a cancer patient. Official sources said the injured is out of danger. The injured was identified as Boshuka Aye of Satoi village.

The deceased was later taken to his native place after formalities while the injured was being treated at the hospital itself. Officials informed that a shell of 9mm handgun was found at the spot.

Condemning the shooting, Nagaland Senior Citizens Forum (NSCF) said hospitals are a place where people are treated for, nursed through their illness or injuries. The sanctity and decorum of health centers should be respected and maintained, the NSCF reminded.

A messaged issued by its secretary S Gunakha Swu stated that anyone, be it the victims, civilians or members of the underground organizations or whosever, killing inside hospital areas itself is an act of inanity and deserve no justification.

The forum said the incident is violating all ethical norms and is disrespectful to society and people. The forum has urged one and all to maintain peace.

Also, the Kohima Sumi Hoho (KSH) issued a note today strongly denouncing the shooting. The ‘hoho’ wondered why killings are still continuing in spite of appeals made by society. The ‘hoho’ questioned “how long will killing continue and how much should the hohos and NGOs make an appeal”, and said “enough is enough”.

The letter was appended by the Kohima Sumi Hoho’s president Edward K Zhimomi and general secretary, Lhokiye Yepthomi. The organization reiterates its appeal to the authorities of the underground factions to stop killing and for once listen to the cry of the people who continue to demand peace.
