Resonance of pure music and authentic performance by Ayim Longchar and his friends lighted up Café Leon in Dimapur on December 19 evening.
Ayim along with Keran and Wonsghi from Kohima performed a number of original songs from his album ‘Warrior’ and also cover worship songs in the first ever live music show hosted by Café Leon, located near DC Court in Dimapur.
In a brief interaction with The Morung Express before the performance, Ayim said, “saying yes for the show was a win-win situation. I have an outlet to promote the album which I released last year and at the same time, with this I have the opportunity to stand behind the vision of Café Leon.”
Though the reach might be small, Ayim said, “I hope that someone who attends the show will go back home a little lightened up.”
In reference to his album ‘Warrior’, Ayim shares that the response was disappointing but his heart is at peace and satisfied with the promises of God. “It was not for fame or popularity so I am okay with the response so far,” he adds.
Ayim also disclosed that he is working on few EPs to be released in the near future and also looking forward to work in collaboration with Sinai Music and various other artists very soon.
Meanwhile, talking about hosting the live music show in Café Leon, the proprietors Imtimoa Ross and Aren Sayer Ross said that it has always been in their hearts to do something for the young people to encounter love, peace and hope during this season especially around Christmas. This will be the beginning of more such events, they informed.
“It is our dream to create a place where young people can come and feel like home and at the same time enjoy the food, music and ambiance,” the husband-wife duo shared.
With both having musical experience and also currently doing church music, the Ross said, “We are not doing free music. We respect and honour artists for what they do and they should definitely be earning from the shows they perform.” On a lighter note they added, “A plate of fried rice cannot pay off the efforts of the artists and musicians.”
Sharing on the vision and heart of Café Leon, the young entrepreneurs said, “We want to usher something for the young people where they can earn experience, inculcate the culture of earning on their own.”
“Nagas have the tendency to distinguish between different kinds of job. But we have to know and understand that a job is a job. In Café Leon, we maintain the work profile so that there is no overlap but there is not hierarchy,” they shared.
“One example we are trying to set is the equal sharing of tips. Unlike other places, in Café Leon, whatever we received as tips from customers are equally shared among the staff. We hope to bring a transforming in the mind of people by treating everyone equally.”
They also shared that the primary vision of Café Leon was to have a place where people can enjoy varieties of coffee. “We are yet to reach that place due to various reasons. However, our goal is till to promote local coffee products and hopefully, in the near future we will create our own coffee brand,” the hopeful couple added.
